Does the Christian life feel like you are pedaling as hard as you can, but you just can’t keep up?
In this vividly illustrated and encouraging session, John Barnett diagnoses the number one cause of spiritual exhaustion. If you feel like your face is red and your legs are burning from trying to be "good," you might be trying to ride a bike with no air in the tires.
Here is why you cannot miss this class:
1. THE 18-MILE FLAT TIRE John shares a hilarious but painful story about a bike trip on the Kal-Haven Trail with his son. After jumping off the path and popping a tire on a sharp pine branch, his son was too proud to admit it. He spent the next 18 miles pedaling furiously just to stay behind his dad. John uses this to paint a perfect picture of the religious hypocrite: You are working twice as hard to get half as far. If your Christian walk is exhausting, you need to stop hiding the flat tire.
2. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE AN "AVENGER" What is an "Overcomer"? John notes that many Christians think an Overcomer is a spiritual superhero—like Iron Man or the Avengers. They believe there are "normal" Christians, and then there are the elite special forces. John dismantles this myth using the book of 1 John. He proves that "Overcomer" is simply the biblical definition of a normal Christian. You don’t need superpowers; you just need the One who is "Greater than he that is in the world."
3. THE GEOGRAPHY OF REPENTANCE How long does it take to get back to God? John recounts his days as a youth pastor, teaching students the "Geometry of Grace." You may have taken a thousand steps away from God into sin, but the return trip is always only one step. He contrasts this with the religious penance of crawling on knees across a cathedral plaza. You don’t have to earn your way back; you simply have to take the step of Metanoia (a change of mind).
4. THE PATTERN OF THE GREAT PHYSICIAN Jesus never leaves a patient where He finds them. John breaks down the brilliant psychological structure of the Seven Letters. Jesus starts with a compliment, identifies His power, and then drops the pivot word: "But." However, He never says, "No hope for you." Discover the divine pattern of confrontation that always leads to the same cure: Repentance.
THE BOTTOM LINE: You can’t pedal a flat tire all the way to Heaven. It’s time to stop the bike, admit the tire is popped, and let the Lord refill you. Join John Barnett to learn how to stop working for your salvation and start enjoying the ride.
