If the Apostle Paul started a revival today, would he go on a book tour?
In this culturally challenging and deeply biblical session, John Barnett takes us back to the streets of Ephesus in Acts 19 to contrast modern "Celebrity Christianity" with the real thing. If you are tired of a church culture that magnifies personalities, this class reveals the three marks of a revival that actually impresses Jesus.
Here is why you cannot miss this class:
1. THE "GOOD MORNING AMERICA" TEST John paints a vivid picture of what would happen if the Ephesian revival occurred in America today: The pastor would be on Good Morning America, write a bestseller, and become a superstar. But in Acts 19, Paul stayed in the leather shop. John highlights the miracle of the "sweat rags"—God used the dirty aprons of a working man to heal the sick, proving that true power comes when Jesus is magnified, not the messenger.
2. THE EBAY CONSCIENCE What do you do with the "trophies" of your sinful past? John notes that modern Christians often sell their old, questionable items on eBay "so someone else can get polluted by it." He contrasts this with the believers in Ephesus who took 50,000 pieces of silver worth of magic books and burned them. This is a call to radical consecration—destroying the bridges to your past rather than monetizing them.
3. THE "SIESTA" SEMINARY How did the Word of God "prevail" in a pagan city? It wasn’t through a Sunday service. John explains the "Lunch Hour" strategy of Paul. During the daily siesta (from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM), when the city slept, Paul held a daily dialogue in the Hall of Tyrannus. Learn how a commitment to daily Bible answers, rather than just weekly sermons, caused the name of the Lord to grow mightily.
4. NO HIDDEN SINS The ultimate mark of the Ephesian church was that believers stopped hiding. John explains that when Jesus is truly magnified, Christians stop pretending. They come "confessing and telling their deeds." This session challenges you to drop the mask, stop "coasting," and experience the freedom of having no secrets before God.
THE BOTTOM LINE: A good church isn’t defined by its lighting, its seating, or its speaker. It is defined by a people who magnify Jesus, burn their idols, and let the Word prevail. Join John Barnett to find out if you are part of the crowd or part of the revival.
