Welcome back to our small group study! John Barnett here. I want you to imagine we are sitting right across the table from each other, with our Bibles open and our notebooks ready. Today, I am incredibly excited to introduce a class that takes us deep into the heart of Isaiah, unpacking everything from the fall of the devil to God’s sovereign control over the nations.

1. The Devotional Map: From Christmas to Cyrus
Scripture References: Isaiah 24-27 (The Day of the Lord).
Summary of What’s Covered: We kick off the class by looking at a sweeping overview of the key chapters in Isaiah. We trace the prophecies from the Throne of God and the classic "Wonderful Counselor" Christmas verse, all the way to the Tribulation judgments found in Isaiah 24-27. We even look at the astonishing prophecy where God specifically names King Cyrus 200 years before he actually ruled the Medo-Persian empire! I will also open up my personal journal to show you my exact devotional method: how to write titles, find doctrines, and draft an application prayer. This is the exact same method you can use for our other 15-class courses covering everything from Leviticus and Psalms to Peter and Revelation.
2. The Cosmic Fall: Lucifer, Pride, and the God of this World
Scripture References: Isaiah 14:3-11; 2 Corinthians 4:4; John 8:44; Romans 5.
Summary of What’s Covered: Next, we dive into the profound origin of evil. I’ll share my personal journal titles for this chapter, which include "The Origin of Satan" and "Lucifer plus pride equals sin". We will see how God uses the arrogant King of Babylon to introduce the cosmic fall of Lucifer and the rise of Satan. We explore the sobering truth that Satan is currently the "god of this world," actively blinding the minds of unbelievers today, just as Paul warns in 2 Corinthians 4:4. Looking back to the Garden of Eden and ahead to Romans 5, we discuss how Eve was deceived, but Adam willfully chose to disobey God, plunging all of humanity into sin and death so that we are now sinners by nature, by choice, and by divine decree.
3. Sovereign Boundaries: The Fall of Invincible Empires
Scripture References: Isaiah 14:1-2; Acts 17.
Summary of What’s Covered: Finally, we look at God’s ultimate authority over global superpowers. Chapter 14 beautifully begins with God’s promise of mercy on Israel, before detailing the terrifying destruction coming upon Babylon, Assyria, and Philistia. In their prime, these ancient empires seemed awesome, powerful, and completely invincible. But drawing a crucial connection to Acts 17, we will learn that Almighty God sets the exact limits, times, and boundaries for every single nation on earth. No matter how powerful a nation seems, they will all ultimately be judged according to God’s perfect timeline.
