The everyday choices we make with our actions and time are like items we place in a shopping cart, destined for a final conveyor belt where they will be evaluated by the testing fire of Jesus Christ.
Welcome back to our small group study! John Barnett here. I want you to imagine we are sitting right across the table from each other, maybe at Panera or Starbucks, with our Bibles open, our journals ready, and a warm cup of coffee in hand.
Today, I am incredibly excited to introduce a class that forces us to examine what kind of spiritual structure we are building with our lives. Drawn directly from our study session, let me walk you through three memorable, life-changing truths we will unpack together:
1. The Spiritual Crib: Overcoming Baby Food and Fleshly Divisions
Scripture References: 1 Corinthians 3:1–4.
Summary of What’s Covered: We kick off the class by confronting the danger of spiritual immaturity, which Paul calls sarcodosin—acting like the flesh and living like a lost person.
We will look at the tragic symptoms of a carnal Christian: an appetite that can only handle spiritual milk while avoiding the deep, growth-producing doctrines of God’s Word, and attitudes marked by envy, strife, and division.
We will learn how carnal believers foolishly identify with human heroes and leaders like Paul, Apollos, or Peter, rather than anchoring their faith and maturity in Christ alone.
2. The Walmart Conveyor Belt: The Testing Fire of Christ’s Checkout Stand
Scripture References: 1 Corinthians 3:5–15.
Summary of What’s Covered: Next, we will explore how our daily choices and actions are used to build things.
We will look at how our choices are placed in a spiritual shopping cart and rolled onto a conveyor belt—just like at Walmart—to be cashed out by Jesus Christ.
We will see that our work will be revealed by fire, and while our obedience built with gold, silver, and gems will last forever, anything not done for Christ will be burned, causing us to suffer loss.
3. The Living Sanctuary: Walking Humbly as the Temple of God
Scripture References: 1 Corinthians 3:16–23.
Summary of What’s Covered: Finally, we will unpack the breathtaking reality that we are the literal temples of God, and that His Holy Spirit dwells right inside of us.
Knowing that God has made us His sacred dwelling place should completely change how we walk. We will learn how to reject worldly pride and instead walk in deep, daily humility before our Lord.
If you want to stop living like a spiritual infant and start building a fireproof life of eternal value, you need to listen and grab your Bible, get your journal ready, and let’s master the Scriptures together!
