US President Donald Trump signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran at the Palace of Versailles in France, shortly before a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. “It’s signed,” Trump told reporters after the dinner.
The interim agreement, signed during the G7 summit in France, is aimed at ending hostilities between the United States, Israel and Iran. The memorandum calls for an immediate end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon. It also includes the full reopening of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of a US blockade on Iranian ports, sanctions waivers, the unfreezing of Iranian assets, and a $300 billion economic rehabilitation plan for Iran. Under the agreement, Iran also pledges not to build nuclear weapons, reaffirming a commitment it has made for decades.
