Sir Keir Starmer has confirmed the government will spend an additional 15 billion pounds on defence by "reprioritising spending across government".
This follows months of wrangling over the investment plan which saw both the Defence Secretary and Armed Forces Minister resign.
Military analyst Michael Clarke said: the announcement is "positive" and is a "step in the right direction" – "but in a way it’s only half a step".
