Wildfires continued to burn across the Italian island of Sicily, driven by strong winds that spread flames towards residential areas.
Fires near Palermo forced evacuations, closed roads and caused power outages, while more than 100 people were evacuated in the southern province of Agrigento after a blaze threatened homes near Santo Stefano Quisquina. Local authorities also said a firefighter died after falling ill while responding to the emergency.
