Andy Burnham has hailed the opening of a northern branch of Downing Street as "the best day of my life".
Speaking as he worked for the first time at the Manchester office, he insisted Number 10 North won’t be "the new levelling up or another sort of short-lived gimmick".
The prime minister is expected to work in Manchester at least once a week.
