Aerial footage shows homes engulfed by flames as a major wildfire swept through Sierra Oeste, west of Madrid. Spain declared its first-ever national wildfire emergency, with more than 19,000 people ordered to evacuate as firefighters battled to stop multiple blazes from merging.
More than 2,000 emergency personnel and 10 aircraft were deployed as Spain and France also sought EU assistance amid an intense wildfire season fuelled by extreme heat.
