A huge crowd of mostly male Moroccans stormed the border with the tiny Spanish territory of Ceuta on the North African coast on Thursday. Police said the situation is absolute chaos. Local officials called on Spain to declare a national emergency and send the army to restore the border, but the government said it cannot declare a national emergency over migration concerns. DW’s Brent Goff spoke to journalist Stephen Burgen about the thousands of migrants who mainly swam to the exclave. Activists reported that three people died attempting to reach Ceuta by sea. Spain and Morocco agreed to work together “for the return, as soon as possible, of all the people who entered Ceuta illegally.”
