A hidden “phone home” feature was discovered in more than 20 models of Chinese-made routers, raising questions about how they worked, who could have controlled them, and whether anyone ever used them.

We hear from the expert who discovered the backdoor, Jacob Baines, who is Chief Technology Officer at the cybersecurity firm VulnCheck, and Simon Sharwood, Asia-Pacific Editor of technology news outlet The Register.

They explain what was found, how the hidden capability could have worked, who might be affected, and how to think about who was responsible.
