Footage has emerged which appears to show police chasing a car shortly before a crash that left five people and two police officers dead.
The video – showing a car being chased by two police cars – was taken minutes before a Volkswagen carrying five people hit another police car while travelling the wrong way down the A66 near Middlesbrough.
Two Cleveland Police officers who died in the crash have been named as PCs Matthew Blades and Tom Clough.
It is understood police stopped the chase once the vehicle joined the A66 – and the police car that was hit was not involved in the operation.
