Rescue teams are battling waist-deep mud and dangerous terrain as they search for survivors after a devastating mudslide at the Gyirong border port in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. The disaster, which struck on the Nepalese side on Wednesday, had killed 16 people and left 546 missing as of Saturday evening, according to local authorities. Rescuers, aided by search dogs, heavy machinery and helicopters, are working in difficult weather to clear debris, locate survivors and deliver emergency supplies and specialized equipment to the affected area.
