Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US is likely to announce new sanctions against an Iranian bank this week as Washington ramps up economic pressure on Tehran. Bessent said the US could also target airline leasing companies and other entities that do business with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He vowed that the administration would “economically asphyxiate” the regime and freeze assets belonging to Iranian officials around the world.
