AI video is getting REALLY hard to spot… So I tried to build a tool that could detect it for me.
The idea was simple: paste in a YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or X link and have the app tell me whether the video was AI-generated.
What I thought would be a pretty straightforward build turned into multiple days of testing, broken detection logic, Gemini getting fooled, a third-party AI detection API, thousands of API operations, and a whole lot of “inconclusive” results.
Eventually… I got it working. Kinda.
And the whole experiment left me with a much bigger question about AI and all of the claims that we’ve already reached AGI.
