9/11 Truthers are right about one thing: Fire from jet fuel cannot melt steel beams. But: Steel doesn’t need to melt to lose stability.
As with any conspiracy theory, there are many arguments that need to be debunked.
They found molten metal in the rubble, so something other than fire must have melted it.
True – but no analysis ever confirmed it was structural steel. Skyscrapers are full of other metals: aluminum from the aircraft, elevator systems, wiring. Aluminum melts around 660°C, way below the fire temps recorded at Ground Zero. NIST’s conclusion: It’s most likely melted aluminum, not steel.
You can see explosions during the collapse.
Those bursts of dust and smoke shooting out of windows are real – but they’re not explosives. Once the upper floors began falling, that mass slammed into the floors below, faster than the trapped air could escape. Air, smoke, and debris got forced out sideways through windows, floor by floor, just ahead of the collapse – like a piston.
WTC 7 wasn’t even hit by a plane – and it still collapsed.
WTC 7 stood about 370 feet from the Twin Towers. When the North Tower (WTC 1) collapsed, building parts crashed into WTC 7’s structure and knocked out the water supply firefighters needed to fight the fires. Those fires burned uncontrolled for almost 7 hours. The official investigation found that heat from the fires caused a critical support beam to expand and slip off its column. That triggered a cascading floor failure that left the column unsupported; when it buckled, the whole building came down. It’s the first known case of fire alone bringing down a high-rise.
