Earlier this month, the White House debuted five arcade-style video games on its official website, two centered on the administration’s immigration agenda. One had users chase and deport immigrants in a twisted version of “Snake.” Another had players stack Tetris-like blocks to build a wall and “protect the border."
But turning cruelty into a game isn’t new. It’s an old propaganda trick, used to make hatred feel entertaining and ordinary. We saw it in Nazi Germany in 1938, among white supremacists in 2002, and now from our own government.
