“From the top of the world to the ocean depths, we stand for every child’s right to play.”
World freediving champion Alessia Zecchini carried the dreams of 117 Palestinian children from Gaza beneath the Mediterranean in a powerful action marking Global Gaza Kite Weekend.
“After the Italian climber Leonardo Avezzano carried a kite bearing messages from Gaza’s children to the summit of Mount Everest, in an expedition led by Palestinian-Jordanian mountaineer Mostafa Salameh, it was time to go below the surface,” Rising Dreams, which co-organised the action, wrote in a press release.
“Their dreams have now travelled from the highest point on Earth to the depths of the Mediterranean. The message is simple: children should be able to play, dream and look at the sky without fear,” the statement added.
Alessia Zecchini has won 18 gold medals at the World Championships, 33 international medals and set 40 world records in freediving, according to her website.
