OpenAI’s agents were given routine jobs. Look up a book’s author. Identify a song. Then researchers found traces of those same agents taking five more actions nobody asked for, aimed at US government systems.
Agents tried to break into the Department of Education’s civil rights office website and
failed. In the Commerce Department they went after government employee credentials and
found some sitting in the open. They reached the SEC looking for employee data.
