French police deployed tear gas on September 28, to disperse a group of migrants carrying life jackets attempting to launch a dinghy from the northern coast of France toward Britain, leaving a slashed boat abandoned on the beach in Petit-Fort-Philippe, Gravelines. The intervention unfolded on the same day local authorities confirmed that three people, including a child, died in a separate tragedy while attempting to cross the English Channel to the UK.
