What does a championship basketball team have in common with a healthy church? In this message from Philippians 2 and 4, Pastor Rogers borrows a principle from legendary UCLA coach John Wooden, who built championship teams around three things: getting players in condition, teaching them to play together, and drilling the fundamentals. Pastor Rogers shows how those same three things, sanctification, fellowship, and discipleship, are exactly what it takes to build a unified church.
From Paul’s charge to two feuding women in the Philippian church, Pastor Rogers unpacks three requirements for real unity: harmony, hearts tuned to the same standard in Christ, not forced uniformity; humility, not thinking lowly of yourself, but not thinking of yourself at all; and helpfulness, looking out for the interests of others rather than just your own. This episode will help you lead your church toward a unity that isn’t forced from the outside, but grows from the inside out.
“Uniformity comes from without. Unity comes from within. Unity can never be brought about by rules. It can never be brought about by threats. It cannot be brought about by pressure.” —Adrian Rogers
