A fire damaged parts of Francois Rabelais school and at least two parked vehicles in Metz, eastern France, on October 2, as nationwide student protests disrupted 735 high schools. Students are demanding better learning conditions, smaller classes and action on teacher shortages. A link between the fire and the protests remains unconfirmed.
