On October 11, a sudden flash flood in Nepal triggered by a suspected landslide blockage near Chumchet swept away multiple bridges, including the Soti Khola bridge, and damaged homes. While authorities have rescued nearly 50 people, five individuals remain unaccounted for. Officials credit an early warning SMS system with preventing a larger tragedy, coming just weeks after a previous deadly flash flood disaster in the country.
