Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington home early Monday as part of a criminal investigation. The Justice Department says the search was conducted under a judicially authorized warrant, but officials have not publicly revealed what investigators were looking for or whether the congresswoman herself is a target.
That uncertainty is exactly why this story is exploding. Omar has been surrounded by years of allegations and partisan warfare, but a federal search warrant is a new and far more serious development. It does not establish guilt, and no arrest or criminal charge has been announced. For now, the undeniable story is that DHS agents entered the home of a sitting member of Congress while a criminal investigation is underway.
