Police and protesters clashed in Buenos Aires on October 15 during a large march demanding that President Javier Milei’s government implement a law updating public university funding and wages. Riot police fired tear gas as demonstrators hurled stones near Congress.
The University Funding Law, passed by Congress in August 2025 and later overridden after a presidential veto, requires inflation-adjusted salary increases for professors and higher student scholarships. Opposition parties, unions and social groups joined the protest, which also coincided with a failed attempt in the Chamber of Deputies to repeal a broad deregulation decree.
