Dear Partners in Ministry, we are finishing up our week in the UK teaching the Book of Acts. On our last day with the students we took them all for a half day through the British Museum.
Here is the THIRD of six short clips I took while we were going on an almost 5-mile walk through one of the greatest museums for Bible Believers–in the world. Thanks for praying for us, the impact was just as we hoped: deep and profound! RUNNING TOWARD THE UNREACHABLE–SHARING THE GOSPEL THROUGH JONAH’S STRUGGLE.
When God commanded Jonah to preach to Nineveh, the prophet ran in the exact opposite direction. As the gruesome bronze reliefs of the Balawat Gates depict, Assyria was a terrifying military machine known for impaling captives, flaying prisoners, and stacking severed heads.
Jonah feared walking into a horrific war zone—but his deepest struggle was spiritual: he knew God was gracious, and he refused to let his bloodthirsty enemies receive mercy. Jonah wanted judgment on Assyria, but God wanted salvation.
Jonah’s struggle exposes a quiet danger in our own lives. How often do we hesitate to share the Gospel because we fear rejection, or secretly write off certain people as "too far gone" and hard to reach? We look at a hostile world or bitter opponents and assume they are beyond redemption.
Yet the account of Jonah proves that no culture is too dark and no sinner is beyond the reach of God’s relentless grace. While Jonah fled to protect his own comfort and prejudices, God’s heart burned with compassion for lost souls.
Today, God calls us to surrender our fears, abandon our prejudices, and embrace His relentless mercy. Don’t run away like Jonah. Step out in faith, embrace God’s heart for the lost, and carry the life-transforming Gospel of Jesus Christ to a dying world today!
