Lil Jon is sharing more insight into his son Nathan Smith’s death, including the pair’s final conversations, in his memoir I Only Shout So You Can Hear Me. In the book, the “Get Low” artist reflects on supporting Smith—who performed as DJ Young Slade—as he dealt with what Lil Jon described as “intense,” unexplained physical pain, stress, trauma and anxiety. After Smith told his dad he was working through a lot and trying to communicate better, Lil Jon placed one final call to remind his son, “I see that you’re trying, and I want you to know that you are seen.” Smith died at age 27 in February, with the memoir arriving eight months later.
