Since its inception, the Department Homeland Security has had a limited focus — some cybersecurity and technical support — in federal elections. But as midterms loom, Donald Trump’s DHS is taking a far more active role, from launching investigations into election-related matters to sending agents to voters’ doors. “It shouldn’t come as a surprise to any of us,” said immigration lawyer Lindsay Toczylowski, “ICE is now the largest law enforcement agency in the entire country.”
