Frankfurt’s city center descended into chaos late Saturday, October 31, as hooded rioters smashed shop windows, looted stores, and targeted emergency services with Molotov cocktails. The violence erupted following widespread demonstrations organized by the youth group "Gen Z regelt" demanding lower living costs and education reform across 34 German cities. While police estimated around 18,000 total participants nationwide—well below initial organizer projections—the situation in Germany’s financial hub deteriorated rapidly, prompting Frankfurt police to warn bystanders away from the downtown core as authorities struggled to regain control.
