Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, recognized by Forbes as the world’s richest individual with a personal net worth exceeding $230 billion, appears to be distancing himself from an earlier financial commitment to support former President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Elon Musk denies he is donating $45M a month to Trump.

The controversy emerged when ABC reporter Arthur Jones III questioned Musk on Capitol Hill about his alleged commitment to contribute $45 million monthly to a pro-Trump super PAC. Initially, Musk did not respond, but when pressed, he seemed to renounce the pledge.
“At no point did I say I was going to donate to Trump,” Musk responded. “That was fiction made up by the Wall Street Journal.”
The Wall Street Journal had reported on July 16 that Musk had promised to support America PAC with a $45 million monthly donation until Election Day, citing sources familiar with the matter. The report also mentioned contributions from cryptocurrency moguls Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss and Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale.
America PAC’s mission is to mobilize voters in critical battleground states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. With Musk’s purported financial backing, Trump’s campaign would have a substantial war chest to influence key swing states where the election outcome could hinge on a narrow margin.

Musk’s denial is notable because he had previously acknowledged in a tweet that he was spending $180 million (equivalent to $45 million for four months) to assist Trump. Moreover, journalist Parker Molloy observed that following the news of Musk’s donation, the hashtag #MAGA became a promoted topic on Musk’s social media platform. Tweeting the hashtag automatically generated an image of Trump raising his fist, and another user noted that the #Trump2024 hashtag produced a series of American flag emojis on the platform.
Earlier this week, Musk appeared to downplay his contributions, stating that while he was making donations to America PAC, the amount was “at a much lower level” than initially reported.
Leftist MSNBC highlighted an interview with Jordan Peterson, where Musk stated that his funding of America PAC was to “promote the principles that make America great in the first place” and to advocate for “the least amount of government intervention possible.” This statement sharply contrasts with Musk’s March tweet declaring he wouldn’t use his wealth to sway the presidential election.
“Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President,” Musk tweeted on March 6.

Musk must not look too enthusiastic for Trump as Biden and the Dmeocrats – Marxists are still in control in Washington DC. Freedom of speech will soon return to the United States, for musk as well, after November.
Major Points:
- Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, reportedly distanced himself from an alleged commitment to donate $45 million monthly to a pro-Trump super PAC, initially reported by the Wall Street Journal.
- The Wall Street Journal claimed Musk’s donation was intended to support America PAC, which focuses on get-out-the-vote efforts in key battleground states for the 2024 election.
- Despite previous indications, including a tweet suggesting he would spend $180 million to aid Trump’s campaign, Musk later downplayed his contributions, stating they were at a much lower level than reported.
- The controversy intensified as #MAGA became a promoted hashtag on Musk’s social media platform, generating imagery supporting Trump, despite Musk’s March tweet denying he would financially influence the presidential race.
- In an interview with Jordan Peterson, Musk expressed his desire to support principles that promote minimal government intervention, adding complexity to his public stance on political donations.
