In a security bulletin, the U.S. Embassy urged American citizens in Israel to exercise caution and increase their personal security awareness, including knowing the location of the nearest shelter. The alert emphasized that mortar and rocket fire, as well as drone intrusions, can occur without warning, making the security environment unpredictable and subject to rapid change.
The bulletin also noted that U.S. government employees and their families might face restrictions on travel to certain areas in Israel, including Jerusalem’s Old City and the West Bank. Additionally, the Embassy stated it might require these individuals to shelter in place if the security situation worsens.
Meanwhile, Israel had already announced delays for flights departing from Ben Gurion Airport until 10 a.m. local time. Air raid sirens were heard throughout northern Israel, prompting the Israeli Home Front Command to temporarily raise the alert level across the region. Flight tracking websites reported numerous cancellations and delays at the airport as the situation unfolded.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched the strikes to neutralize a threat posed by Hezbollah, which he claimed was preparing to attack. Netanyahu stated that the military had since destroyed “thousands of rockets aimed at northern Israel” and emphasized Israel’s commitment to defending its territory. “Whoever harms us—we will harm them,” he declared.
Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, announced on state-run Al-Manar TV that their military operation was complete, countering Israel’s narrative of a preemptive strike. Nasrallah detailed that more than 320 Katyusha rockets and numerous drones were deployed in the attack, targeting various military sites and missile defense platforms in Israel.
Israel has promised a severe response to any substantial aggression from Hezbollah, recalling the fierce conflict between the two in 2006. Supported by a U.S.-led coalition, Israel’s multi-layered missile defense system has intercepted hundreds of missiles and drones from regional adversaries, including Iran.

The U.S. has recently reinforced its military presence in the region. The Pentagon reported that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin discussed the situation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, reaffirming the United States’ unwavering commitment to Israel’s defense against attacks from Iran and its allies, including Hezbollah.
Hezbollah, closely allied with Iran, has also hinted at further retaliation for recent events, including the death of a senior Hamas leader in Tehran, for which Israel has not confirmed involvement.
