The arrest came after a coordinated investigation by the Columbia Police Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Disturbing details from the arrest warrants reveal that investigators discovered child pornography on Vereen’s laptop. One warrant described a digital photograph found on his MacBook showing a girl, estimated to be between 11 and 13 years old, in a sexually suggestive pose. Additional warrants alleged that Vereen had purchased explicit videos involving a 13-year-old girl.
The investigation traced Vereen’s activities through various digital records, including Gmail and Apple accounts, along with another unidentified source. Vereen has been with WACH FOX 57 for nearly three years, having previously worked at KOLR, a news station in Springfield, Missouri.
In response to the arrest, WACH FOX 57 acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations against Vereen and announced his suspension pending further investigation. “As this is a personnel matter, the station will not be commenting further at this time,” a spokesperson for the station stated.
