The US announced it would resume military assistance to Ukraine – including intelligence sharing. The announcement follows talks in Saudi Arabia where Kyiv said it will back a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it’s now up to the Kremlin to make a move. He added that if Moscow says no to the proposal – the US would conclude Russia is the real impediment to peace.
US President Donald Trump has also backed down from doubling tariffs on Canadian metal imports to 50%, just hours after threatening to do so. Trump announced the reversal after the Canadian province of Ontario said it would suspend its price surcharge on electricity sold to the US. It comes as back-and-forth tariff threats have plunged markets in the US. A previously planned 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports is still set to take effect on Wednesday.
