US President Donald Trump demonstrated at the White House his support for Elon Musk—the world’s richest person and Tesla’s chief—by purchasing a Tesla Model S for approximately $80,000.
Shares of the automaker closed nearly 4 per cent higher after Trump appeared on Tuesday with Musk to select a new Tesla for his staff.
Trump’s decision to buy the vehicle was seen as a significant endorsement of Musk, who has faced a massive stock decline since he began advising the president.
Activists have recently staged “Tesla Takedown” protests, criticising Musk for supporting sweeping cuts to the federal workforce and the cancellation of humanitarian aid contracts.
White House spokesperson Harrison Fields condemned the protests, describing them as “heinous acts of violence by radical leftist activists and “nothing short of domestic terrorism.”
A group claiming to organise the Tesla Takedown protests responded on Bluesky, emphasising that their demonstrations are peaceful.
“Peaceful protest on public property is not domestic terrorism. They are trying to intimidate us, but we will not let them succeed,” the group stated, calling for more people to join the protests.
