"When a writer enters the family, the family is screwed"
Mishal Husain and novelist Salman Rushdie talk about their connection in the latest episode of The Mishal Husain Show https://t.co/u6uRm2KObj
In this Bloomberg Weekend interview – Rushdie talks about surviving a knife attack, returning to fiction and the challenge of defending freedom of expression.
The celebrated author Salman Rushdie was almost killed when he was stabbed 15 times on stage in upstate New York in 2022. It was an attack that came decades after he was first subjected to death threats over his novel The Satanic Verses. His injuries included the loss of an eye and, as he recovered, he found himself unable to write fiction. Once he published an account of the attack, however, the stories of his imagination returned and five are brought together in a new book, The Eleventh Hour.
