As we open our Bibles to 1 Thessalonians 4:1, we find Paul writing from the bustling, immoral city of Corinth to the young believers in an equally godless city of Thessalonica. He has one driving passion: to teach them how to live a life that smiles at God.
Paul simplifies the entire concept of sanctification into just two words: "Pleasing God." Just as Jesus summarized salvation in two words—"Follow Me"—Paul summarizes the Christian walk as a daily pursuit to please the Lord until He returns. Here are the three essential anchors Paul gives us for a life that pleases God in a darkening world.
