Protests erupted across Iran, including Tehran and Mashhad, beginning in December after soaring inflation, a collapsing currency and years of US sanctions, and have since grown into a nationwide movement demanding the end of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s government.
Despite an internet blackout, mass arrests and deadly force by security forces, demonstrators continue mobilising at home and abroad, as Iranian leaders blame US and Israeli interference while opposition figures and some US statements voice support. Kristina Simich has the story.
