In a heart-wrenching tribute, the community gathered to honor Corey Comperatore, a firefighter and father who tragically died in a shooting at a Trump rally on July 13. The streets leading to his church were lined with locals paying their respects to a man they considered a true hero.
Comperatore, 50, was fatally shot during an assassination attempt on the former president in Butler, Pennsylvania, around 6:11 p.m. that evening.

Sylvia Lowry, whose son worked alongside Corey, shared her sorrow, “My son served with Corey for years. He was an incredible mentor and a wonderful person. Our hearts are broken. He came from a great family, and we pray he rests in peace.”
Jeanne Fox, who worked with Comperatore’s wife, Helen, highlighted his role as a dedicated father to his two daughters. “He was a fantastic ‘girl dad,'” she remarked.
Comperatore’s dedication extended beyond firefighting. He served ten years in the U.S. Army Reserves and once led the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department as chief. His commitment to service was evident in every aspect of his life.

Residents from Sarver to Cabot lined the streets, waving American flags and watching a procession of firetrucks, EMS vehicles, and motorcycles from various Pennsylvania towns as they traveled to and from the funeral service at Cabot Church.
Katie Fuhrman, who has family ties to Comperatore, reminisced about him from his younger days. Though it had been a while since she last saw him, she remembered him as an incredible man, a loving husband, and a doting father with a great sense of humor.
In a poignant moment at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, former President Trump paid tribute to Comperatore. His firefighter jacket and helmet were displayed on stage as Trump spoke of his selfless act. Trump described how Comperatore lost his life protecting others from harm, embodying the ultimate sacrifice. He spoke of a spirit of bravery and love that has guided America through its darkest times and will continue to do so.

The tragedy also left two others, David “Jake” Dutch and James Copenhaver, critically injured. Both men are currently in stable condition as they recover in the hospital.
Authorities are diligently investigating the motives behind the attack by 20-year-old Thomas Crooks. The community remains in mourning, remembering a man whose life was defined by bravery, service, and deep love for his family.
