As Uganda heads into a general election, concerns are growing over digital freedoms and access to the internet. While the government says it has approved limited use of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet, officials have warned that importing the equipment requires clearance from the army commander, who is also the president’s son. With memories of past election-period internet shutdowns still fresh, the opposition has prepared for the possibility by turning to traditional modes of communication. Raziah Athman reports.
