Protesters stormed the Kuwaiti consulate in the southern Iraqi city of Basra on April 7 following a rocket attack that killed three people and wounded five others in the Khor al Zubair area near Basra. Footage showed demonstrators scaling the fences and walls of the consulate compound. Iraqi authorities used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Kuwait strongly condemned the incident as a violation of diplomatic norms and held the Iraqi government responsible for the safety of its diplomatic missions. Kuwait stated it was not party to any regional conflict and would not allow its territory to be used for attacks on other countries.
