Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Claudio Cordone told the UN Security Council that Israel must “respect Syria’s sovereignty,” “cease its violations,” and “return all Syrian detainees.”
On Monday, around 40 Israeli settlers illegally crossed the border into Syrian territory before being returned by Israeli forces. They filmed themselves dancing and singing in the Syrian village of Khadr.
“Israel appears determined to drag Syria into the arena of ongoing regional escalation, with the aim of undermining the progress we all have achieved,” Syria’s UN envoy Ibrahim Olabi said.
