"We can learn a lot from what Türkiye is doing … Türkiye has gone through a defence industrial revolution"
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the alliance can learn from Türkiye’s defence industry as he pointed to the country’s rapid advances in recent years, and said there was much NATO could take from its experience. Rutte stressed that allies must “do better” and “do more” to strengthen their defence capabilities, adding that Türkiye’s progress offers a clear example of how to scale up production and innovation.
Aselsan, founded in 1975, has grown into one of Türkiye’s largest defence firms and now ranks among the top 50 companies in the sector globally. In January 2026, it became the first Turkish company to reach a market value of $30 billion, underscoring the scale of the country’s expanding defence industry.
