“Suspend the EU–Israel Association Agreement now!”
The second-largest political group in the European Parliament staged a protest on Wednesday inside a parliamentary building in Brussels, calling for the suspension of the EU’s partnership agreement with Israel.
Lawmakers from the Socialists and Democrats group also called for “immediate sanctions on violent settlers in the West Bank.”
“The creation of a Palestinian state must be the EU’s unwavering priority, starting with the reconstruction of Gaza,” the group added on X. “Israel must stop military operations in Lebanon.”
Earlier this month, a petition demanding that the European Commission suspend its association agreement with Israel surpassed one million signatures.
The EU–Israel Association Agreement, in force since 2000, sets the framework for political dialogue, trade, and cooperation between the EU and Israel.
Issues such as Israel’s war in Gaza and alleged illegal land seizures in the occupied West Bank have led many in the bloc to question Israel’s continued preferential treatment.
