Are you exhausted by the endless pressure to climb the ladder of success, constantly struggling with the "me first" syndrome?
In this profoundly challenging class, John Barnett turns the world’s definition of success completely upside down. He reveals that true greatness in God’s eyes has absolutely nothing to do with how many people work for you, but entirely with how many people you are willing to serve.
Here is a summary of the life-changing truths covered in this class:
1. The Ultimate Ambition: Why Earthly Greatness Fades but Divine Usefulness Lasts–Matthew 20.
Summary: When asking children what they want to be when they grow up, Barnett shares that the single best answer a person can give is, "I want to serve the Lord". While you might become a brilliant doctor, musician, or architect, earthly careers and buildings will ultimately pass away. The absolute greatest, most enduring ambition in all of life is simply being useful to God.
2. Flipping the Kingdom: Defeating the "Me First" Syndrome–Matthew 20:20-28.
Summary: Barnett examines the story of a mother asking Jesus for the top seats of honor for her two sons. Jesus uses this to expose how the secular world measures greatness: by lording authority over others and boasting about how many subordinates you have. Christ demands a radically different approach to cure our "me first syndrome": if you desire to be great, you must willingly move to the end of the line and become a slave to everyone else.
3. The First-Class Trap: Practicing Everyday Humility–Matthew 20:26-27.
Summary: Have you ever experienced the "first-class syndrome" where you feel entitled, expecting others to get out of your way? Barnett shares a fascinating encounter on an airplane with a high-ranking Scottish official who actively fights this pride. Because of his powerful position, this man intentionally practices humbling himself by always stepping back and letting others go ahead of him in lines. Barnett challenges us to make that same mental choice to avoid sitting at the "head table".
4. Descending into Greatness: The Radical Sacrifice of Toyohiko Kagawa–Matthew 20:28 (Reflecting Christ who came to serve and give His life).
Summary: To illustrate the ultimate servant’s heart, Barnett shares the gripping true story of Toyohiko Kagawa, a Japanese believer who prayed to be made like Christ. Despite suffering from tuberculosis, Kagawa moved into the slums of Tokyo, willingly sharing his bed with sick beggars and giving away his own clothes until he was left in a ragged kimono. His radical sacrifice proved that God dwells among the lowliest of men—visiting the prison cell and the hospital before He visits the temple.
This class is a beautiful, piercing reminder that Jesus guarantees His ultimate "Well Done" to those who stop demanding to be served and start laying down their lives for others.
