The Venice Biennale in Venice was disrupted on May 8 as protests over Israel’s participation led several national pavilions to temporarily close.
Crowds gathered near Via Garibaldi and the Giardini area, with attendance estimates ranging from 500 to over 1,000. Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro called the protests “legitimate,” while the Israeli pavilion remained under tight security.
