Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said that if Europe attacked Russia the war “would be very short.” Speaking in Yekaterinburg on September 17, he said the idea of war against Russia was a favourite topic of European leaders despite Moscow repeatedly saying it had “no intention of attacking Europe” and “no interest whatsoever in engaging in such a conflict,” but that an attack on Russia would lead to “a completely different" type of war.
