Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across France on October 17 to protest the cost of living and school conditions, as unrest escalated into fires, looting and clashes with police. More than 1,800 people had been arrested by the following morning of Oct 18, and Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said 150 police officers were injured. Looting and vandalism reportedly continued into Sunday evening, with hundreds more arrested.
