Netflix Revives WOKE Cartoon And Everyone HATED It!
Netflix just dragged a four-year-old cartoon back into the spotlight—and accidentally started a gigantic culture war. The official Netflix account posted a 42-second scene from the 2022 stop-motion film Wendell & Wild with the caption, “no one’s cooler than her.” The clip shows 13-year-old Kat Elliot marching through her Catholic boarding school with an eyeball boombox blasting X-Ray Spex’s “I Am a Poseur.” It exploded to nearly 49 million views, thousands of replies and thousands of quote posts. Critics mocked Kat’s character design, accused the scene of leaning into ugly stereotypes and asked why Netflix thought a student disrupting an entire school was supposed to look cool. One hostile response alone passed 100,000 likes.
Except “everyone hated it” is not literally what happened. Some of the largest responses fiercely defended Kat, praised the unique stop-motion design and argued that the scene celebrates Black punk history. One supportive quote passed 240,000 likes, while another complaint that Netflix barely promoted the movie in 2022 reached roughly 190,000. The film came from Coraline director Henry Selick and co-writer Jordan Peele, with its Afropunk soundtrack and unconventional character design being deliberate creative choices. It received 80% positive reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, although its audience score is a more divided 64%, and it failed to enter Netflix’s weekly film Top 10 upon release. Netflix didn’t unveil a new show—it resurfaced an old scene and watched the internet relitigate the entire movie.
